Cobra, Six Flags La Ronde

Cobra, Six Flags La Ronde

I’ve heard this is a rather rough coaster by Intamin, but they weren’t really well known for their stand-up coasters.  I always thought these rides were kind of gimmicky.  But when these rides are rough, it’s best to limit riding.  Follow the Link to the page all about this ride.

The New Kentucky Kingdom and Hurricane Bay!

How on earth this park pulled through, I have no idea!  But now, the New Kentucky Kingdom is BACK and it's "better than ever!"  Ahem, but really friends. . . I really like the direction this park is taking in the immediate and near future!  They're opening with a new coaster Lightning Run, and Thunder Run, one of the best Dinn & Summers woodies, has been completely re-tracked!

Lightning Run looks like it will be a sick Chance-Morgan Hyper GT-X Coaster, continue for more!

New for 2014 - Goliath - Six Flags Great America

The folks at Rocky Mountain Coasters (RMC) have  two great additions to the world next year.  They're certainly on a roll with their new coasters.  This is a custom wooden coaster, which will feature two inversions:  including a dive-loop and an inventive twist on the zero-g roll.  The fact that this coaster even has a dive loop is frightening enough, but this completely wooden coaster will also have the longest drop (180 feet), steepest drop (85 degrees) and will be fastest wooden coaster in the world (72 mph).  Six Flags Great America is removing the Ragin' Cajun wild mouse coaster, to make way for this world class attraction, and I'm sure the residents of Illinois could not be happier!

New for Six Flags Mexico - 2014 - Steel Medusa

It looks like Rocky Mountain Coasters (RMC) is at it again, and we're ever more thankful for their hard work and dedication.  This time, they're reworking Medusa at Six Flags Mexico.  This ride promises to be a "hair-raising" experience, with an inverting first drop, as well as two additional inversions throughout the ride.  All of this takes place on a glass smooth steel track, with lap-bar only restraints.  More after the bump . . .

New for Six Flags Over Georgia 2014 - It's Hurricane Harbor!

Well it looks like all of the speculation was correct, once again.  Six Flags Over Georgia has just announced  Hurricane Harbor for the 2014 season.  This will be the largest expansion ever in the parks history.  In reality, they're removing the Southern Star Amphitheatre to make way for the new attraction, which will be situated behind Skull Island in the Cotton States area of the Park.  More after the bump . . .

Sky Screamer Media Day - SFOG - 2013

Back in may, I was able to attend the media day event for Six Flags Over Georgia's introduction of the Sky Screamer.  The ride is certainly thrilling, I would say the re-ridability is great for thrill-seekers, but many people may not venture up 240 feet.

The ride itself is not entirely forceful, but I do like the fact that it descends at full speed to "half-mast" to swing near the tree-tops, and ascends for the final spin at maximum altitude.  If you live near Atlanta, be sure to check-out Six Flags Over Georgia.  It's definitely one of the best in the chain.

Almost Absurd Coaster Concept - Las Vegas

Well folks, haven't we all wondered when the next "worlds tallest coaster" would come onto the scene?  Maybe the wait is over?  Here's a concept drawing, as well as a news article on what would be  over a 650 foot attraction in Las Vegas.

Known as the Polarcoaster, this attraction from US Thrill Rides  would prove to be a multimodal attraction on the Vegas Strip.  Equipped with restaurants, and other venues, this could be a "one stop shop" environment.  It seems though, due to the height of the attraction, that the ride would require FAA approval, also in part of the ride's proximity to the airport.

Despite the extreme height of the ride, it does not seem that the first drop would be over 600 feet, so i'm not thinking this coater would break any speed records.  I'm definitely interested to see how things pan out.  I would like to see this attraction in other cities too!

Georgia Cyclone

Hey everyone.  Six Flags Over Georgia is my home park and I really wanted to share the Georgia Cyclone roller coaster with you.  My first ride on this Dinn & Summers beast was back in 1992, and it was as wild one.  Here are some pictures!  The ride was re-profiled back in the 1990s, shortly after it opened.  Someone complained of whiplash from the first drop, and the "snap" was removed.  Also the 6th hill was much steeper, and filled with ejector-airtime and that hill was re-profiled as well.  Finally the last turn did have one last pop of air as well, and it was removed and leveled out.

Currently the ride has been re-tracked for the 2012 and 2013 season,  and will hopefully be repaired some more.  Let me know what you think about this ride, and please share your own experiences.

Hades 360 POV Test Run - Full Video

Here's the "new" and improved Hades 360 via the Mt. Olympus Resorts YouTube Channel.  Wow, this ride looks awesome! I have always wanted to ride timberliner trains, and I'm sure they do quite well on a more aggressive layout such as this. The Zero-G rolls just seems (almost) impossible.

Starry Sky Ripper - Sky Scrapper POV B&M Flyer Roller Coaster World Joyl...

Does anyone else think  this ride  is crazy?  Here's a vid from Theme Park Review's trip to China, and probably from the looks of it, my favorite B&M flyer.   Where can I find a B&M coaster in the US with a crazy layout like this?

Sky Screamer Media Day 2013 (SFOG)

Hold on tight, I recently attended the Sky Screamer media day event at Six Flags over Georgia.  Below I have a video of myself riding Sky Screamer, and I give you a few views of the ground to give you an idea of exactly how high 240 feet seems up in the sky.  Well, now rumors are circulating around that the ride has only been topped off at 220 feet, but can only find articles that prove the 240 feet height.  Wikipedia says that it's 242 feet which was the original touted height.  Despite all this, I did want to note that the ride runs great, and the manufacturer Funtime has done a great job with this product.  They seem to be doing much better than their competition Mondial Windseeker  which have many problems.

At any rate, my local Sky Screamer has a great cycle, that swings low to the trees mid-way through, and maintains its 45 mph speed.  Be sure to check out the video below, and tell us what you think?

Kumba

Kumba is a Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) multi-inversion steel looping coaster located at Busch Gardens Tampa.  This ride really sticks to the old school B&M mentality of lots of G-forces, tons of inversions, and twisting high-speed fun.  The coaster has a total of seven inversions including a loop, a dive loop, zero-g-roll, cobra-roll (2), and interlocking corkscrews (2).  The finale takes you into a tunnel and a very tight helix.  Check out my video below.
Here's an off-ride video of Kumba
